TODAY'S FUTURE; TOMORROW'S VULTURE.

They stood at our gate with their banners lifted
Pleading that we make entrance for them
We hurried out of our homes to welcome them
To listen to them speak with passion and concern
They said they needed nothing from us
Save our thumb painted in red
In return they will give us their all
Even their lives if it is demanded
We hearken unto their deceit
Telling our friends to count for them
Our children we urge to sing their praise
In School and on their way home

It was time and we did as they bid
Staining our thumbs to mark for them
We read through to find their name
With joy we gave them the seat
The first year we got nothing
We were sure it was because they just got the power
They needed to settle in and blend first
Until it was three and a half years
Then we realized we had been played
None of their promises were fulfilled
Instead of Educational growth
What we got was an indefinite compulsory break
We became sicker because of hunger
Health care centers had no remedy in store
We cried unto them but they heard us not
Our roads became the way to the other side
We write a departure letter everyday before leaving our houses
We reminded them of their vows
They replied they already made plans for them
But reptiles and monkeys visited their offices
Feeding on the funds they had prepared
They borrowed from the neighbouring countries
Raising our hope for the remaining six months
Six months after they left power and
We wondered! What have we benefitted?

They come to us again today
Claiming it is their turn
We wish to reject them
Yet we somehow find ourselves opening unto them
They made their promises again
Swore to keep to it this time around
We believed them and voted them again.

  1. Contender with Baal really contended with the issues we face in Nigeria in this work...

The tiredness and anger can be felt in the words... Though wordy, he knitted the thoughts together carefully.

Well done @Jerubbaal for voicing out thoughts
