PSYCHO IV
Something feels wrong.
Why has she not woken up?
She pinched herself hard.
No. It didn't work.
She badly needed a sniff. Weird, she thought. She had never thought of sniffing or drinking in any of her previous nightmares.
Of course, she hadn't. Her monster is dead now. She can do whatever she wants in her dream now.
Perhaps I might build a pink castle with rainbow gardens, she mused.
Now that would be a sight to see.
If only she knew where—
Her thoughts were interrupted by the forced opening of her door. She watched in horror as five policemen cautiously crept in, each holding a gun.
"W-what is going on?" she managed to say.
One of them pointed his gun squarely at her. "You're under arrest, ma'am."
His voice was gravelly—the type she admired in men. She might have liked this particular policeman.
If he wasn't looking so professional, that is.
She heard the snap of a finger. Groggily, she managed to remember what he said.
Arrest. Prison.
She frowned. "You don't understand. I killed him. He was evil. I killed him."
She was almost screaming now.
An officer raised a brow. "Him?"
She nodded. "Yes, the boogeyman." It sounded funny on her tongue. "He was dead, but I killed him again."
The officer with the gravelly voice brought out handcuffs. "I'm afraid not, ma'am."
She frowned again. If it wasn't him, then who did—
She stopped, afraid to think further.
It can't be.
She had not been dreaming.
She walked slowly towards the form she pushed off her bed.
Bile rose to her throat.
Her mother lay face-down. Blood gushed from her head. Into the carpet.
There was blood everywhere.
She wanted to scream, but she laughed instead. "The boogeyman made me do it. I swear!"
The end.
