Her Story.
She should have known he was too good to be true,
With his dazzling eyes, with specks of blue.
Different girls envied her, yet he never noticed them.
She was all he ever wanted, or so he said.
Promising heaven and earth had been his forte.
He said he would never leave her should he clock forty.
She swallowed all he said—hook, line and sinker.
She ignored the fact that he was an heavy drinker.
She gave him her love, her body inclusive.
She should have known that doing that was stupid.
One week after rounds of joyful sex,
She discovered something that made her perplexed.
The surprise went, then from her heart came sweetness.
She hurried off to tell him of her new-found happiness.
She explained to him that their recent acts of lovemaking
Had made her a mother in the making.
Surprise was written all over his face.
He looked at her as if in a daze.
Then, suddenly, he burst into bouts of laughter.
He asked her if it was some silly banter.
She shook her head, wondering why he thought it was a joke,
Until he grabbed her neck, and she began to choke.
She had never seen him look so furious.
She even began to think he was delirious.
With anger in his voice, he told her to "abort the thing".
His words hurt her as a bee's sting.
She said she'd rather die than to take a life,
And to have a baby had always been her drive.
He laughed so hard, she thought he was beginning to see reason.
He told her all-too-plainly that it had all been a liaison.
He said he has never loved her, and that he had a wife
And a beautiful girl he loved with all his life.
Each word he said cut through her like a knife.
She ran out of his house out of embarrassment than of fright.
She had never imagined she could be treated this way,
For he had been so kind, and oh, so tame.
Taking her life was something she had considered.
Yet, whenever she thought of the form in her, the thought would whither.
The road be windy, the sea full of strife,
With her child by her side, she knows she'll be fine.
