What Happened Last Night
Again, across his room he heard loud whispers.
Which turned to a fray that later grew fiercer.
In his small jumpy boxer quickly he went looking.
Tiptoed like a baby thief in the night trying to steal candy.
Angrily he swung his folks door.
Oh dear!
Snapped mommy's head to where he stood with her smile so sore.
Baby it's cockroach your mommy and I are trying to kill.
Daddy said hiding his fist behind his back.
When will they stop their lies?
His heart creaked and trembled in sweltering rage.
This is the perfect moment to act his age.
Then indifferently he said, Can I sleep with you tonight?
He is afraid they might get into another fight.
He waited not for their replies and on the bed, his dead legs crawled.
He was tired tonight, also with their lies heavily loaded inside his head.
The bed was warmer than the cold goodnight kisses pressed on his forehead.
Sleep was far away from his eyes.
And in silent groan his restless heart steer.
He saw earlier the punch and bash and clout.
The rain of blows that made mommy swallow her shout.
The bruise would be there tomorrow which mommy would cover with her perfect hair.
As they sit to eat family breakfast in perfect warm intense air.
These continuous scenes are confusing his five years old brain.
Daddy breaks and mommy has it whole in fake.
He wonder what is their gain.
