NIGERIA, WHICH WAY OUT?
NIGERIA, WHICH WAY OUT?
I hear fairy tales of the 1960's
When this Nation prospered in her peaceful ways
With our freedom fight burning high
In a vast and rich land
Born with a broidery of grace.
But forever now
I've been waiting for that Nation
To come back and reign again
Because all I see & live in
Is a country
Living in a dead book of 1999
A monument of disgrace
Written by the blood of powerful knaves
Who turned sons to slaves
Vultures —
Feeding on our land's gold.
I'm stuck at the headquarter of poverty
Where there is circulation of inequity
And the education that kills curiosity & creativity
Oh!
Look at the Commons over there
living on hope of tomorrow's bread
With their long beseeching hands
Stretching to God
As they pray for miracles.
I cry to you this day
Nigeria, which way out?
Only if we are united
With our indigenous values restored
Call the young for training and reorientation
That leading isn't eating
The "National Cake" is for all
Call them to serve and not sell
Then, can our dear land
Heal from this old turmoil
& be the leading light
In Africa.
