Kore Akarakiri’s Review of the Book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D.

Every groundbreaking change begins with awareness—awareness of what is missing and needs to be found or what is wrong and needs to be fixed.

In this book, the author discusses two major mindsets: the growth mindset and the fixed mindset. The growth mindset embraces growth and learning, believing that what is unknown can be known and learned.

In contrast, the fixed mindset believes that if an ability isn’t innate, it cannot be acquired. These two mindsets are deeply ingrained in the people we encounter in various aspects of life—whether as students, teachers, parents, coworkers, or clients.

Thus, identifying your own mindset, as well as the mindsets of the people you interact with, is crucial. This awareness can help you build on a growth mindset or, if you have a fixed mindset, work on shifting to a more flexible approach.

These mindsets are not necessarily adopted naturally but can be influenced by societal factors such as schools, parents, and primary caregivers. For example, when parents evaluate their children's abilities in a way that implies a fixed evaluation of their potential, it reinforces the idea that one evaluation can define them forever. This mindset creates a sense of urgency and limitation for those with a fixed mindset. On the other hand, communicating the possibility of growth—and the understanding that growth won't come easily—amplifies the development of a growth mindset.

The mindsets we hold shape our relationships, how we perceive and accept or repel others, and our approach to learning or teaching, whether as parents, educators, or in business. Thus, this book is a well-rounded guide for personal growth.

If you want to understand why you see life the way you do and how it affects your actions, and wish for a review of your mind, then
this is a book you should get at your nearest bookstore.
