The Death of a Duet
The stars gave you a song to teach,
And I kissed the lyrics from your lips,
Till they flowed off mine, too.
You sang for me
&
I sang for you.
Somewhere along the harmony,
My voice started to crack
While you ran out of breath
And slowly, our song lost its melody.
For I sang in whispers,
And you couldn’t sing again
The words of our duet,
Now fading into a distant echo,
Which, like vinegar in a cup of water,
Will dissolve into silence.
