Metamorphosis
In childhood, love burned your tongue
When the world took it & turned it
To twist you on the inside.
Denial does not sweep scars away.
Your life is at high noon & now you walk
With your head held high.
For the ghosts you wrestled to a standstill;
The truths, you hurled at mirrors
Till reality broke through to shape you
With iridescent wings & you flew
From a cage of shattered memories.
Sunny daylight blesses your face.
With a loving kiss it blew away
The black bandage over your frozen wounds
So they gushed poison blood.
Then, salve flowed forth to make you whole,
To change you for the last time
From a butterfly
Into an angel.
