Dear Lover, Where you at?

It’s been long hours standing in front of this mirror and I have gazed and gazed but my heart
Remains the same way- Bare/ metal rust welded to my chest/seeking for structure and covering.

I envy every one of those characters in telenovelas, every one with a lover that protects them
From the blinding lights of pain, making them drool in brooks of affectionate wet kisses
& isn’t it just beautiful how the sprouts of the tree of their tenderness grows.

Every intimate moment is watermarked with a hug and a tender look into each other’s eyes /
A voyage into each other’s souls/a bond too strong to be expressed using the lexicon of this language I
 Write in & something in me dies from thirst , it’s a longing too strong to be tamed
& I know it, I know there is something missing —
The mention of my lover’s name in this poem / a part of me in another husk of flesh / giggles / cuddles
In the middle of the night to unstick me from mud.

To jolt me out of this would probably be
 Impossible, well I have accepted that.
Yes, I have accepted that this hollowness will continue to linger. In an alternate dimension we are
Made to witness two lovers in arms;
Trudging through a garden, enjoying each other’s coziness with one of them being me- the black
Boy who has been told he won’t find love.

 That’s enough lines for a poem already, time to resume my
 gaze into this mirror
