A critical look at things, our present generation may be the most favourable generation after all, due to the few wars that have taken place, compared to past generations. Although there are still huge calamities befalling humanity presently, the most dangerous threat which is War, has now subsided.
War was a common phenomenon in earlier centuries as humans were still settling in regions which stirred conflicts most time. War was also mainly exercised to show force and domination.

Let's take a peek into The Crimean War...

Among the Western world, wars were basically fought to occupy territories (colonization) because the larger the territory a country had, the mightier it became and was respected. One of the wars on the quest of this was the Crimean War, also known as the most useless war in history, as it had no strength in reason and resources.

The Crimean war was between Russia (who initiated it) and Turkey (formerly called Ottoman Empire). It began on October 1853 till February 1856 and was fought on the Crimean Peninsula (Ukraine). British and French joined forces with Turkey to defeat Russia and unknown to Russia, they agreed to ally due to the agenda of also occupying territories.

The war was initiated from the conflict of great powers in the Middle East and was more directly caused by Russian demands to 'exercise protection' over the Orthodox subjects of the Ottoman sultan or ruler. Another major cause was the dispute between Russia and France over taking control of the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches in the holy places in Palestine.

The Crimean War didn't end well and was managed very poorly on both sides. Russia's ambition couldn't succeed and they were defeated by Turkey and its allies. Over 500,000 people died, a huge percent on the basis of deadly diseases within the three years the war lasted.

Interestingly, this was the first major war where civilian journalists and photographers were on the battlefield sending information and taking photographs.
