Supplications to God after witnessing an Extra Judicial Killing for the umpteenth Time

As I walk this path of the road, / erase this face of anything that will attract me to the barrel of an assault rifle...

Dear God /

An heartfelt request isn’t known to pass your ears unattended. / My heart is still startled from the events of last night, / but for whatever the mumblings on the slab of my tongue are worth, / permit this supplication to be duly answered. / Yesterday’s dawn wasn’t what I was used to / there I stood numb at the sight of a policeman rendering an innocent man lifeless. / Nothing here does the job better than a Kalashnikov. / That was the straw that broke my camel’s back. / I have survived many of this; / each experience distinct as they carve out a new slice through me. / In this country, everything falls apart. / The soil here reeks of blood / of innocent ones whose crime is the hope for a better country. / Everything here is a fragment of despair. / A memento of anguish. / A souvenir of pain.

Dear God /

As I walk this path of the road, / erase this face of anything that will attract me to the barrel of an assault rifle, / bestow me with a demeanor repulsive to this blood-thirsty demons on uniform, / and if a British accent is enough to put them off, / then stack my vocal cords with enough of it to make my journey through their checkpoints seamless. / Records have it that they pull their trigger unprovoked, / if that happens, / grant me the reflexes to evade the fury of an incoming bullet. / So that at the going down of the sun / I shall be a recipient of the cozy arms of my loved ones, / and not the snarling, / nasty mutterings from the crevices of hell.
