05:04:2020.COVID-19: Health is wealth. But, what happens when our means of livelihood is out?
COVID-19, a viral disease the whole world is currently battling with, has caused the Nigerian government to declare a lockdown nationwide for two weeks. The lockdown started on the 31st of March, 2020, as interstate borders were declared locked and movement was restricted in order to curb the spread of the pandemic whose victims keep increasing on a daily basis.
It is truly said that health is wealth, but, what happens when the nation is on shutdown to protect the health of the citizens without any provision for their basic needs such as feeding?
Most artisans in Nigeria, live from their hands to their mouths as it’s been said, as their daily feeding is based on their daily income, especially the motorcyclists known as Okada riders, the taxi drivers, petty traders etc. but now that the whole nation is indoors, with no trade to make nor services to render, what will these masses survive on while they protect their health?
So many questions unanswered. Will the government restrict our movements without making a provision for our feeding? Are they not supposed to see to our basic necessities while we fight these battle as other nations of the world are doing?
In adherence to the regulation, people in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, stayed indoors in the morning, but, it wasn’t so in the evening as people started coming out to source for livelihood.
Are the viruses that fly in the day time different from the ones that fly in the evening?
Let’s leave the government for a moment, it’s obvious that the Nigerian government can’t reach the grassroots except when elections are drawing near, if you have more than your neighbor, please go out of your way and share with them.
